Oh I know that sounds grewsome, I mean it is almost Halloween, right? But it’s not as bad as it sounds. I went for a cemetery walk!

For those of you who know me, this is not out of the ordinary. I used to walk in the Fairmount Cemetery almost daily. It’s peaceful! and nobody talks back at me. This happened to be in Grafton, Utah. An old Ghost Town where they filmed Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
My days in the Zion area have been fantastic! When I started on this trip, I thought I would be spending a lot of time alone and eating the basics. Not so when you park at Jeff and Pennie’s house. They spoiled me rotten and the food was spectacular! The best B&B ever and it will remain the best kept secret…. shhhhhhh! Jeff was very hospitable and Pennie was an angel – probably the sweetest woman I have ever met. Patti, Doug, Kim and Brent were a major bonus, but Kim and Brent’s place was amazing too. I feel so bad for them. They have to look at this all day.

Those green trees at the bottom of the mountain, that’s where they live. I couldn’t walk around without my head tilting up. Everywhere I turned were majestic views – and I wasn’t even in the park!
Patti and I did make it into the park though. We hiked Angel’s Landing. No, we didn’t put in for the lottery to go up the sketchy trail with the chain link rail, but we did hike to Scout’s Landing which allowed us to see the whole thing.

We stayed up there a while and had a snack with no idea that everyone else was staying back about 20 yards.

Everyone was worried about us – like we were about to go over the edge! Hah! We were really about 6′ away but it looks like we were ‘living on the edge’.

We even got some volleyball in while I was here, and it was the best sand I have played on! Thanks for making my time here special. I do try to be a polite guest – don’t leave stuff laying around, keep the bathroom neat and clean, help out in the kitchen (if Pennie would let me)….. but they all left today, so I am here by myself. It took me all of 5 seconds to take over the entire bathroom! Well geez! It’s been almost 3 weeks since I have had the chance to expand. It will be all cleaned up in the morning.
What is it with married men hitting on me? With their wife in the room!! Ugh
I have been totally blessed to be around friends and family for the first few weeks of this adventure. I didn’t plan it that way, but I’m happy it worked out the way it did. Tomorrow I move on, and will actually be by myself for a few days. Should be interesting.
Tip of the day: If you want to park in Zion, get there early, like no later than 7AM. As Jeff kept telling us – each car I hear drive by is another parking spot taken that you won’t get. If you blow the early window like Patti and I did, and yes there was no parking, I am going to share a local’s secret. Continue on to the Nature Center. It looks like you can’t park there since it is closed and there is construction going on, but we snuck on in and there was no sign telling us NOT to park there, so we did. No problem, no ticket, and we started a trend so the lot was full when we got back.
Thanks for reading! Happy trails!
