Photo ops

Hi! I am on the road again and would like to tell you about my time in Arkansas, but Melanie finally sent me all her pictures and I have some catching up to do. My phone kept pinging, and pinging, and pinging a couple nights ago while she did a big ol’ photo dump. Very distracting while I was trying to read, but it made me laugh. Let’s see what I have….

That camp ground I where we had to plow through water to get to – that was Fort Pickens on the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Not only was it a good campground, we got to walk through the old fort. We did this at the last minute before we left, so it was a bit rushed, but we got a few pictures and it was pretty cool. This is also where Taps are played every night.

I mentioned that we grilled steak over an open fire – I was a proud chef and the steak came out perfect! I’ve also become quite the campfire maker.

I know, big steak. We shared it AND had leftovers!

You’re on a ‘photo’ tour at the moment, and I’m totally doing this out of order.

Before steak, we wandered around ‘downtown’ Pensacola, and meandered through a cool Veteran’s Memorial Park

So many names on so many walls….. thank you all.

As I mentioned, we treated ourselves to some delicious Old Fashions (on an empty stomach)

Took a jaunt through the old historic district – this dude is REALLY old!

There are cannons all over. It’s hard to think about this area being a war zone.

I’ve been moving around since Pensacola – Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and back again. I’ll probably write again tomorrow. For now, you are caught up (or maybe only a week behind me).

Tip of the day: Visitor Centers! I used to poo-poo them and never go in, but I have learned they are the most knowledgeable, and nice, people you’ll find in any city! We had no idea how to see ‘downtown’ Pensacola, and she laid it out for us perfectly, and even planned our escape route so we didn’t get caught in Gallery Night – which is a street fair they do once a month with vendors, music and food. We didn’t stay because I had to go cook a steak, but it sounded like a fun time if I had a jacket with me.
