PARTING IS SUCH SWEET SORROW

Bye Melanie! It was great hanging with you for almost two whole weeks! We parted ways yesterday. It’s weird not having her van following me now.

It has come to my attention that I have a couple of things to explain. Some of you saw this picture on Facebook

Yes, I am still pulling my little camper with my Subaru. At this site in Arkansas, we decided to pull me in first and unhitch me so I can reach the electrical without an extension cord, but yes, it does look like the Sprinter is pulling it. Just a coincidence.

SOB – South of the Border Volleyball vacations. The acronym is NOT what many of. you probably thought. I got the funniest text from my sister saying they were racking their brains trying to figure it out – I can only imagine what she and Randy came up with! If you are a volleyball player and like the beach, these are fantastic trips to take! I have met so many wonderful people (you’ve heard me mention some of them on this trip from Santa Cruz, Denver, Zion, Dallas and Mississippi), and it has made this trip even better than i had hoped! Thank you Tom Davenport for putting SOB together – it has been a true blessing in my life!

Back to my story. After Pensacola, Mel and I decided to go backwards and headed to Biloxi, Mississippi, where we went to the Blind Tiger

Someone please explain to me how we made this picture flip.

We also checked out the Biloxi lighthouse, but then we couldn’t figure out what else to do in Biloxi so we headed out to find a place to sleep before going to Baton Rouge.(Calling Baton Rouge….. everywhere I go songs keep coming to my head – Route 66, Baton Rouge, Little Rock, Country Roads….). Mel has done this plenty of times, but have you ever spent the night in a Camping World parking lot? They were really cool there and even apologized for not having electricity – in a parking lot? Amazing. You can also stay in most Cracker Barrels and Walmarts. If I was able to cook inside my rig, it might be different. Cooking in a parking lot just felt strange. I’d rather spend the $25 for a campsite so I can plug in and do silly stuff like write a blog!

In Baton Rouge –

We spent most of our time trying to find a place to park and walking the levy. We also took a stabl at getting a little artsy.

Have you heard of Schlitz and Giggles? Funny name for a pizza place, but we had to try it.

This was the beginning of our time in Louisiana. I’ll have to share the rest in my next post, but I promise! I’m getting caught up! I will tell you my least favorite part of Louisiana – the ANTS!!! We stopped at a gas station because I needed ice, and as I was about to dump it in my ice chest, I felt a bite on my ankle. Looking down, my entire foot was covered in tiny red ants – OUCH! and itchy too! I freaked out. Yuck!

Louisiana to be continued …..

Tip of the day: Wear tennis shoes when walking on grass in Louisiana!
