If you’ve never been to Key West, everything is ‘Southernmost’. We stayed at Southernmost House, saw the Southernmost Southernmost House, visited the Southernmost point, and so on….
I am sure you have seen many pictures of the Overseas Highway, but it was neat to see it in person. Unfortunately it was rainy, so the water just looked like regular water (I saw the pretty green water in the sun on the way back, but forgot to take a picture and we were in a rush)

This is the old highway bridge. There used to be two of them, but interesting fact (provided by Dave), the other one was blown up in the filming of True Lies! They must be saving this one for the next movie. hmmmm
Our drive was also a little windy

Which I am sure blew a lot of trash onto the beach, so you get the opportunity to pitch in and keep the keys beautiful!

This is a brilliant idea and allows you to get your good deed in for the day.
The trip was key after key after key. We didn’t stop much because the weather was yucky, and we made it to Key West in no time!

This is the Southernmost House where we stayed. It’s actually a Mansion. You can see some pretty famous people have slept here. It was a beautiful old house, with a pool we didn’t use, and a great breakfast in the morning! It is also conveniently located at the end of Duval Street (Key West’s version of Bourbon Street).
A short walk to the Southernmost point

The better picture is compliments of Glis (thank you!). I didn’t want to wait in the long line to get closer, so Dave took my picture as you see it. He was waiting for a big wave to come and douse me, but I caught on to his antics and ran about 2 seconds before it hit. You can kind of see that I was smart enough to pose right after the previous wave hit and the girls standing there ran away screaming. lol
That was the end of our ‘nice’ weather for the afternoon. Dave was showing me the sites (bars) that we should visit, but after teasing us for a while with some quick showers and sprinkles, and making it to the end of Duval, this happened

You probably can’t tell but it was POURING! As soon as the porch we took to for cover started to leak, we decided What the Heck! Let’s get wet! All I could do was laugh – seriously, what else can you do? I wasn’t going to let it ruin my fun!
Back down Duval, we stopped at Willie Ts (Lots of $$$$ on those walls)

and Kevin’s Irish Pub for a pick me up before getting back to the mansion. We were soaked! To the point that Dave had water dripping down his nose!
Hot shower, nap, and the rain finally stopped. I was told it was important to see the sunset in Mallory Square with all the circus acts. We tried, saw a few juggling acts (I know, no pictures), but it was too cloudy, so we went exploring. Have you ever heard the saying “Built like a brick sh–house”? (Don’t laugh. I’m trying to keep this PG.)

Now you have something to use as a reference!
Then we stumbled across the Surly Siren which lured us in (just like a Siren!) with the promise of $5 well drinks. We heard great music, ate a bit, and Chris, the owner, was a kick! She is also THE Surly Siren

See the resemblance? She was definitely surly too! We also got a decent sunset shot from her balcony

Stop in if you are ever in the area! It’s on a side street so you really have to look for it, but it was fun! We visited a few other places that night and ended up at a little hole in the wall down an alley – Dave, you’ll have to help me out with the name. More good music and we actually danced a bit! We also did some interesting people watching and making up stories about them. I think we were way off,, but it was pretty funny. Oh, new experience for me – I walked in the ladies room and there were two men standing and peeing at the only two toilets in the room! What?! With my propensity for accidentally walking into the Men’s room, I backed out to double check that I was in the right place – yep! So weird.
For my history buffs – Hemingway House (no I didn’t go in)

And the Little White House

Read the sign. It was pretty interesting. I didn’t have time for a tour, but I did visit the museum. I would suggest doing this. Who would’ve thought Truman would have spent so much time here while worrying over atomic bombs and ending a war?

Super sunny and beautiful on Sunday as we made our way out of the keys, with a stop for this

The line was a couple hours long to get inside, so we watched from the parking lot and had a MUCH better view with planes flying right over the top of us and this spare Blue Angel jet was right in front of us. I’m not sure how to take a good picture of an air show, so hopefully this video comes through
Ummmm……no. No videos for you lovely readers. NOT that you are not worth it, but I would have to upgrade to Premium, and since I’m on a tight budget, that is not happening. Just imagine four of the Blue Angels flying right over your head at very low altitude. It was cool.
For those of you who may have noticed that this was posted in the middle of the day, our system has been down all day, so I can’t get any work done. I HAD to do something productive before heading out for my afternoon hike! So blogging it is!
Tip of the day: This one took me a while to figure out. If you are having trouble leveling your camper from side to side because it is just too hard to crank, lower the tongue, make your adjustments, then level front to back by raising the tongue again (if necessary). Made my life much easier and now I won’t bend my crank again!
