Future Dreams, Endless Possibilities

Join me as I travel, visiting Friends, Family and Fun places, to see this beautiful country and possibly discover a new path for my life's next adventures. I promise to share with you the Good, the Bad, the Ugly and the Awesome!

Mission Accomplished!

I’ve made it to all four corners of the USA – San Diego, Key West, Maine and I am now in Washington! This wasn’t my original mission, but an accomplishment all the same.

My phone has been acting very wonky lately. It ran out of storage, so I’ve been deleting stuff for the last two days. Then it started deleting stuff I didn’t want it to delete. I really hope these blog pictures stick around because there are very few left on my phone. To add to the craziness, I asked siri to reboot my phone, and all I got was an “mmmm hmmmm” – has siri ever talked to. you like that? I’ll be heading to Glacier soon, so I better have room for pictures!

Anyway, this should be a quick catch up blog. I have been through Wyoming many times, so nothing very exciting there. I DID camp at Guernsey Reservoir – I couldn’t believe how nice it is. I’ve lived close by in Colorado and never knew this huge lake existed! Here’s some views for you – from the cliffs, sunrise from my campsite, the castle, Echo Cave hike and the Happy Campers!

The Happy Campers were very cool. I think they ranged from the mid 60s to the mid 80s and they spend all summer camping in different places. They saw me alone at my campsite and invited me for happy hour and dinner. It was wonderful, especially since I had just ran out of propane (that was a leaky issue I had to get fixed). The best part of the meal? FROZEN strawberry homemade dessert! I live without a freezer, so this was a special delight! This was a great stop, and the only issue was on the first night when a disgruntled train engineer (tracks are close to the campground) felt like he HAD to blow his horn 5 times while passing the campground at 1:00 AM!!! WTH?!

Wyoming is Wyoming – windy and dusty – but I stayed at a comfortable Harvest Host, remembered how nice the night skies are, and met an angel named Wade at the propane place who got me all fixed up and made sure (with a pinky swear!) that I finally fixed my breakaway cable. That was a hassle, but it’s done and I am completely safe now.

More familiar territory, but I never get tired of seeing it

I remembered something about Yellowstone. The first time I went there decades ago, we met some of the local workers and played some ball. It was cool to see behind the scenes, but we also learned that the busiest day in the park is Wednesdays. Seems strange, but they said most people are traveling to get there or leave on the weekends, and by the time they get settled in, EVERYONE is out an about on Wednesdays. I think that is still correct since the traffic was BAD the Wednesday I droved through, BUT I saw the Yellowstone highlights while driving: Bison, Elk, Deer, Geysers and Red Tail Hawks. Sadly no bear or moose this time.

And of course I got some hiking in!

I stopped by Caldwell to see family – thanks for helping me out guys! See you again in a few weeks!

From here, it was time to hit the last remaining corner of our beautiful country – Washington state! If you ever decide to go through Bend, Oregon from Boise to get here, make sure to fill up in Hines, OR. It was probably the most uncomfortable place I have stopped, and the gas was $$$$, but there is no more gas until you get all the way to Bend. Oh, and try to miss the worst rest area I have ever seen.

This is all there was, and the facilities were disgusting, so I didn’t even bother. Gross

I am moving fast now, so there will be more soon. Have an awesome day and thanks for reading!

Tip of the day: If your National Parks Pass expires while you are traveling, DON’T renew it online and try to mail it somewhere. Renew it at the next park you go to. I didn’t know I could do that, and the Teton guy let me through, but the guard at Yellowstone wasn’t in a good mood. I had to pay a $35 entry just to drive straight through, or she said I could turn around and go through Jackson, which woud add about 4 hours on to my drive! I forked out the bucks. My card still hasn’t caught up with me and I am hitting the road again tomorrow. I think I just need to buy another one. So frustrating.
