Waaaay Down Upon the ……

Yes! Songs constantly go through my head as I’m driving around! I saw the Suwannee River AND the Chatahoochee!

I have miscellaneous stuff to catch you up on. I decided to take a little road trip while I was in Clearwater, but before I left, we wandered to a city park for some live music, and it was actually Kenny G! Kinda cool. Oh, and dinner with even MORE SOB people: clockwise from the left: Mike, Sue, Me, Linda, Mike and Jill.

Cliff got a workout on my little side trip since I had no idea where I was going. We headed east to New Smyrna Beach. Cute little town and I got to see wonderful people

This is Tom. He is one of my SOB Mexico volleyball people, here with his lovely wife Cheryl. So gracious, and I love their home! I was here one night then took off for Atlanta (not as close as I was thinking it was!). It was a little weird driving without my camper behind me – I got better gas mileage AND I could see out my back window! For a flash of a second, when I saw how clear it was behind me, I thought I had left my hatch open! Duh. I already gave you my tip on Atlanta – wow it took me a while to get there – 2 hours from 50 miles away. I met more wonderful people, and guess what?! They are not SOBers. Amazing!

You’ve seen the young gentleman in the front before. That’s George from Amarillo and his granddaughter Kennedy, daughter Patti and son-in-law Tom. I wasn’t impressed with Atlanta, but the area they live in is pretty and it’s close to the Chatahoochee.

On the way back to Clearwater, Cliff took me on a crazy route through wild back country of Georgia. My fault because I wanted to go for a ‘hike’ and he had trouble finding one. (I know. I need to forget about the REAL hikes of Colorado, and settle for tree-filled walks instead). We ended up at

This is what you get in the south – funny names and swamps/bayous (I still don’t know the difference between the two). They wanted to charge me $18 to wander through and see some alligators, so I passed on that and went for a walk across the street. Did I miss out? I can’t tell you if it was cool or not.

After taking a right then a left then a right and a right and a left and so on, we made it back to Clearwater to spend Christmas with friends. I already talked about this, but here is a couple of pictures I missed

We went to a Greek Village called Tarpon Springs on Christmas. It may have been interesting if any of the businesses were open, but I was fascinated with their sponge industry – that’s what is hanging on the boat. They have sponge divers who bring these things up, dry them out, and sell them locally. I guess I thought sponges were all made in a factory somewhere. Huh

So I’m back on the road. I’m taking 3 days to get to Dallas to go dancing Saturday night, but I’ll try to see some sights along the way.

Tip of the day: I thought I was becoming a KOA fan. They are pricier than most campgrounds, but good facilities and conveniently located. Well, when I was going to STL for Christmas, I made two reservations at KOAs along the way. When those plans changed, I had to cancel them. Unfortunately, they have a 7 day in advance cancellation policy which seems impossible to get past. The lady in Forsyth, GA was awesome and told me to move my reservation out and keep moving it until I can actually use it. The guy in Nashville, was a turd! He was actually downright rude and wouldn’t work with me at all. After him getting irritated and me getting a little ticked off, I finally cancelled and ate the $50. So my advice is, DON’T stay at a KOA unless you know for sure you will be keeping your reservation, OR cancel at least a week in advance.
