So, I forgot to introduce myself on my first blog. I am the the guest blogger, crazy sidekick and best friend of 55 years….Elaine Owens. Because we love hiking, adventure and the great outdoors, to celebrate our 55 year friendiversary we decided to spend a week discovery all the beauty Utah has to offer.

Today was travel day. Fly into Denver and jump into a Jeep with teardrop camper in tow, driven by my partner-in-crime, Diana Jansen. We set out for our first campsite in Palisades, Colorado. It was a beautiful drive through the Rocky Mountains with stops to stretch our legs and grab a bite to eat for lunch. We enjoyed great conversations along the way like: I wonder what it was like to travel over these mountains in a horse and wagon? Or, how did men tunnel through the mountains back in the day without machinery?

We arrived at our Harvest Host location around 5:45pm. It was at a farm store off the beaten track with no electricity, no water and no bathrooms. Yes, we are definitely roughing it. We took a quick trip to town for dinner at Fidel’s that had tasty fish tacos and the best Palomas. Palisades is a cute little touristy town known for it’s peaches and wineries. We headed back to our campsite and relaxed in the cool evening air, enjoying the beautiful star-filled sky. The perfect beginning to our adventure.

Tip of the day…If you want small bottles of club soda for your trip definitely buy it in advance. It took 5 stores to find it and we had to by a 12 pack box, and they were cans not bottles.
