An easy path…REALLY!!! (NOT)

Today was supposed to be an easy path, nice and flat. HA! What we did not take into consideration is that a flash flood occurred about three weeks ago and the entire path is now covered in broken trees.

We immediately had to do an alternate path on the other side of the bridge. Of course, we are twinsies again. White and grey today.

We climbed up and over rocks, boulders, scrapped our elbows again, climbed through bushes, downed trees and across the stream (a few times).

Sometimes we felt like we were walking in circles because there wasn’t a path to be found. We climbed over trees only to come to a literal ‘dead end’. But we never gave up and final made it to the Escalante Natural Bridge.

And we had to take the typical funny pictures of us holding up the bridge and making a bridge. We had to capture every moment we could. LOL.

We tried to make it to the Escalante Arch but the downed trees from the flood made it virtually impossible so we turned around and headed back. The rocks looked amazing on the way back.

We finally got back to our car and decided that we needed a reward for all our hard work. There was a very cool coffee shoppe on the cliffs that we just had to stop at for some delicious iced hazelnut coffee. It’s called Kiva Koffeehouse and it’s on Hwy 12 west of downtown Escalante. Just the coolest place to get a coffee and enjoy the mountains. You MUST stop by if you are ever in the area!!!

We arrived back at our campsite and got a bunch done. Showered, laundry, cooked chicken stirfry, had some cocktails and chatted with our neighbors. I decided to go ah-natural for the evening … aka wild hair night. (Diana = she should do this look more often. Beautiful!)

Tip of the Day: Never trust a trail that says moderate to easy, mostly flat. Do some research and take into consideration recent storms and natural disasters. Thank goodness we are always up for anything and never give up.
